Hasbro 6″ Commander Cody… Sigh

Hasbro Black Series 6" Commander CodyAt New York Comic Con 2014, Hasbro has unveiled a number of new Black Series 6″, Black Series 3 3/4″ and 5-points-of-articulation Saga Legends action figures for release in early 2015.

As a fan of the Clone Commanders and all things Order 66, the figure that caught my attention above all others is the Black Series 6″ Commander Cody. Sadly, as nice as the figure appears at first, some more frustrating details have emerged from Hasbro that make the chances of a purchase by me doubtful:  Cody Sans Helmet

  1. The figure lacks a removable helmet. I had hoped, at a minimum, that Commander Cody would have a removable helmet. After all, he is one of the few Clone Commanders who has face-to-face dialogue in Revenge of the Sith, sans helmet. Hasbro is making Luke Skywalker and Han Solo in Stormtrooper armor with removable helmets, so I know that it could have been done.

  2. The figure lacks a Phase 1 helmet (or head). Given that the Black Series is Hasbro’s premium line of figures, it certainly should include a phase 1 helmet or head. Commander Cody has a lot more screen time in The Clone Wars than he did in Revenge of the Sith. In the first half of The Clone Wars, he had a phase 1 helmet and this should have been represented in this so-called “premium” figure.

  3. The figure lacks a hologram of Darth Sidious. For me, the most iconic and chilling moment of Revenge of the Sith is when Darth Sidious contacts Commander Cody and orders him to “Execute Order 66.” Cody received this order from a 3D hologram of Darth Sidious projected by a handheld hologram projector. It is a real shame that the hologram projector, with a small transparent blue Darth Sidious, will not be included with this figure. Hasbro may argue that the hologram projector would be too small to include as an accessory, but they are including a thermal detonator with the 6″ Black Series Princess Leia in Boushh Disguise, so it could  should have been done.

Over the past couple of years, my patience with Hasbro has worn thin. Mostly because of sloppy paint applications and an unwillingness to listen to the Star Wars fan community, I have ceased almost all purchases of Hasbro toys. This Black Series 6″ Commander Cody is yet another example of a lack of caring and effort on behalf of Hasbro. I really hope that they get their act together before Episode VII, but somehow I have my doubts.

maybe you can borrow the hologram from the TVC Commadner Cody?

  2. C. W. Walker

Certainly, I could use the hologram from TVC Commander Cody. But I shouldn’t have to…
