Announcement This Week Regarding The Clone Wars

Star Wars The Clone Wars LogoAccording to JediNews, the official site, StarWars.com, will be blowing our minds this week with an announcement regarding Star Wars: The Clone Wars. What could this announcement be? Let’s speculate!

Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 6 on Blu-ray and DVD:

In late August 2014, StarWars-Union.de reported that Amazon Germany has Season 6 of Star Wars: The Clone Wars up for pre-order on Blu-ray and DVD with a release date of November 20, 2014.

In addition, last Friday, Bill Hunt of The Digital Bits posted a rumor in his My Two Cents column stating that within three weeks, Disney will be announcing the Blu-ray and DVD release of Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 6 – The Lost Missions.

I trust Amazon to have accurate information regarding upcoming releases. In addition, Bill Hunt is one of the most respected journalists to cover the home media industry. Therefore, I feel that at a minimum, the upcoming  announcement will contain information regarding the release of Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 6 – The Lost Missions on Blu-ray and DVD.

Kevin KinerStar Wars: The Clone Wars Seasons 1-6 Soundtrack:

In late July 2014, Star Wars: The Clone Wars composer Kevin Kiner was interviewed by the Everything Geek Podcast. During the interview, Kevin confirmed that he is working with Lucasfilm on a CD soundtrack for seasons 1-6 of The Clone Wars. No additional details were given at that time.

As excited as fans would be for confirmation that much of the brilliant score for Star Wars: The Clone Wars Seasons 1-6 will be released on CD and, presumably, digital download, I get the feeling that this week’s announcement will be something more substantial. Perhaps it could be a combination of Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 6 – The Lost Missions on Blu-ray and DVD with the complete Seasons 1-6 soundtrack included as bonus discs.

Bounty HuntersStar Wars: The Clone Wars Season 6 on Blu-ray and DVD with Additional Lost Missions:

Here is where we start to get crazy with our speculation. Ever since it was announced that Star Wars: The Clone Wars would be ending prematurely, everyone from The Clone Wars writer Brent Friedman to voice actors James Arnold Taylor, Tom Kane, Dee Bradley Baker, Ashley Eckstein, Daniel Logan and Sam Witwer to executive director Dave Filoni have confirmed in various interviews that the series was completely mapped out for 8 seasons. They even had the ending planned and how it would all tie into Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.

In March 2014, The Clone Wars Season 6 – The Lost Missions was released on Netflix. We were told that these 13 episodes were far enough along in production that they could be finished and released with minimal effort on behalf of the creative team of The Clone Wars.

But what if there were more? What if the creative team actually completed a few more episodes that were held back as exclusives for the eventual Blu-ray / DVD release? What if we actually get to see the Bounty Hunter Arc that features Cad Bane and Boba Fett? Or the continuation of the Mandalore story that features Ahsoka Tano and Bo Katan?

Ahsoka Bo KatanContinuation of Star Wars: The Clone Wars on Netflix:

I realize that this one is a stretch. Even in my wildest dreams, I do not feel that the continuation of Star Wars: The Clone Wars on Netflix is a possibility. Although Netflix has resurrected a number of series after cancellation, I just do not believe that Disney / Lucasfilm will invest the resources required to complete another season or two of Star Wars: The Clone Wars as a Netflix exclusive. For one, Disney seems to want to push past the Prequel era and focus on the timeframe of the Original Trilogy as they ramp up for the release of Star Wars Episode VII next year. Also, it appears that most of the creative talent from The Clone Wars has moved on to Star Wars Rebels. I can not imagine a scenario where they would have the bandwidth to work on both series. That isn’t to say that new talent could not be brought in to continue The Clone Wars, but I just do not feel that this will happen.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars Daytime EmmyStar Wars: The Clone Wars Direct To Blu-ray / DVD Story Arcs:

When it was announced that Star Wars: The Clone Wars would be ending, the outpouring of support for the show was incredible. Fans started letter-writing campaigns targeted at Kathleen Kennedy and Bob Iger, imploring them to continue The Clone Wars. In addition, after the cancellation, The Clone Wars won Daytime Emmy Awards in both 2013 and 2014. Couple the support for the show with the critical acclaim and it would make sense for Disney to find some way to eventually give fans more stories from The Clone Wars.

Disney is known for direct-to-DVD releases of its television shows and film sequels. Perhaps they will use this method to one day provide fans with more Clone Wars. Maybe they will give us the finale story arc that ties directly into Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith as a direct-to-DVD/Blu-ray movie. Even if they do, I am not holding my breath for a direct-to-DVD story arc to be part of the announcement planned for this week.

Ahsoka To BarissRegardless of what is eventually announced, just the fact that it pertains to Star Wars: The Clone Wars is enough to keep me on the edge of my seat with anticipation and allow my mind to run wild with possibilities. Be sure to keep an eye on the official site, StarWars.com, this week to see what Star Wars: The Clone Wars goodies they have in store for us!
